Atami with 6 in one room:
an onsen hotel with a large bath and meals, or a rental near Kinomiya.
At Atami's onsen hotels, 6 can share one tatami room with the futons laid side by side, but some rooms have no bath of their own and some hotels set an arrival time if you want dinner. A whole-house rental gives you separate bedrooms but no meals, and you walk from Kinomiya Station, one stop from Atami. Searching Rakuten Travel for one night, 6 adults in one room, the tatami and Japanese-Western rooms at onsen hotels came to about ¥80,000–300,000 with dinner and breakfast, and the rentals to about ¥90,000–230,000 with no meals (searched on 17 October 2026).

The deciding pointIt comes down to "leave meals and baths to the hotel?" and "want separate bedrooms?"
In short: an onsen hotel includes dinner, breakfast and a large bath, and the 6 of you sleep on futons laid out in one tatami room. A house has separate bedrooms, and the kitchen and bathroom are yours alone, but no meals are included.
| What to compare | Onsen hotel tatami room | Rental near Kinomiya |
|---|---|---|
| How you sleep | Futons laid out at night, all 6 in the same room | 2–4 bedrooms. Grandparents and children can sleep in separate rooms |
| Meals | Mostly plans with dinner and breakfast (often a restaurant buffet) | Not included. Cook or eat out (cookware, fridge and microwave provided) |
| Bath | Large baths split by gender. Some tatami rooms have no bath of their own | The house bathroom, for your family only |
| Nearest station | Atami Station (on foot, or by shuttle or local bus) | Kinomiya Station next door, then about 5–10 minutes on foot |
| Check-in | Front desk | No face-to-face check-in. Check how you get the key in the instructions after booking |
- In a tatami room with no bath of its own, everyone uses the large baths split by gender. Whether a child can go in with the parent of the other gender depends on the hotel and the child's age.
- Kinomiya Station is 1 stop (2–3 minutes) from Atami Station on the JR Ito Line.

- Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Atami (Sakimi-cho): large baths and open-air baths. Buffet dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. Check-in 15:00 (last 19:00), check-out 11:00. 70 free parking spaces. The large and open-air baths (Kosai no Yu and Banjo no Yu) swap between men and women at set times, and are open 15:00–24:00 and 5:00–10:00. Children aged 7 or over, or 120 cm or taller, use the bath for their own gender. Both the men's and women's changing rooms have a baby bed and a baby bath. The rule on tattoos differs between listings. The Rakuten Travel listing says tattooed guests are refused both entry and stays; the hotel's official onsen page says they may use the large baths only if the tattoo is fully covered with the paid cover sticker the hotel specifies. If anyone in your family has a tattoo, ask the hotel before you book.
- Atami Korakuen Hotel (Wadahama-minami-cho): the shuttle bus leaves the station 9:40–19:10, 2 buses every 40 minutes. When it is full you may not get on. If you prefer Western style, there is also the "Excellency Large Room" (120 m², 4 fixed beds + 2 wall beds for 6). Large baths, open-air baths, a sauna and free coin laundry. Check-in 15:00, check-out 10:00. The hotel says that if you arrive after 19:30 it may not be able to serve dinner. Child rates on the hotel's official site: elementary-school children 70% of the adult rate, age 4 to before elementary school 50%, age 2–3 without bedding ¥3,300 (member price). The private open-air bath is only for guests on the Excellency floor, and is booked at check-in. Guests with tattoos cannot use the large baths.
- TAOYA Atami (Izusan): opened in July 2026 under this name, renamed from the former "Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Hotel Suiyotei". Drinks at dinner and similar are included in the price. Check-out 11:00. Parking is paid. There is a rule that "guests cannot stay if all are 15 or under", which does not apply when an adult is with you. The shuttle bus takes about 10 minutes from Atami Station, with a contribution of ¥10 per ride each way. The large and open-air baths swap between men and women at set times, and are open 15:00–24:00 and 5:00–10:00. Children aged 7 or over, or 120 cm or taller, use the bath for their own gender. Guests with tattoos may use the large baths only if the tattoo is fully covered with the paid cover sticker the hotel specifies. Both changing rooms have a baby bath and a baby chair.
- Hotel Ohnoya (Wadahama-minami-cho): take the local bus from stop no. 7 at Atami Station to "Marine Spa Atami", or the shuttle bus from the station 13:50–17:20 (every 30 minutes; the Rakuten listing says it must be booked by phone). Large baths include a Roman bath. Meals are buffet. Check-out 11:00. 100 free parking spaces (first come, first served). Child rates in the listing: elementary-school children 70% of the adult rate, preschool children aged 3 or over 50%. The large baths (the Roman bath and the flower bath) swap between men and women at set times, and children aged 7 or over cannot go in with the parent of the other gender. The private baths need no booking and can be used 24 hours whenever one is free. The hotel asks guests with tattoos not to use the large or open-air baths, and to use the room bath or the private baths instead.
A room for 6 with a large bath and meals: Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Atami or Hotel Ohnoya
Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Atami came to about ¥140,000–150,000 a night for 6 in a standard 12-tatami room (up to 6), and Hotel Ohnoya to about ¥80,000 in a Japanese-Western room with twin beds + 12 tatami (up to 7) (both with dinner and breakfast; the cheapest on Rakuten Travel for 6 adults, 1 room, on a Saturday in February and in April). Rakuten shows prices per person, so check the total on the booking screen.
Prices change by date and plan, so check the latest on the booking page. Always declare everyone's age when you book.
Hotel New Akao (Atami) is split into 2 buildings, the Horizon Wing and the Ocean Wing, each with its own front desk. Rooms where 6 can share one room are in the Ocean Wing: the Kids Room Premier (52–65 m², up to 7; 2 beds 120 cm wide, 2 beds 100 cm wide and 3 day beds 100 cm wide), a 2-room tatami suite of 12 + 6 tatami (53–64 m², up to 8, 8 futons), a 2-room tatami suite of 12.5 + 10 tatami (130 m², up to 11, 11 futons), and the Premier Japanese-Western room of 10 tatami + twin beds (53 m², up to 7; 2 beds 120 cm wide and 5 futons), among others. The Rakuten listing says all have a bath and toilet and every room looks out on the sea. There are large baths, open-air baths, a sauna and a year-round pool, and meals are in the restaurant. Check-in 15:00, check-out 10:00. 207 parking spaces at ¥1,000 a night.
- From Atami Station it is about 10 minutes by free shuttle bus. No booking is needed: leave the station gates, turn right to the bus circle and board at shuttle stops 5–8 (in front of McDonald's). Buses leave the station 11:30–20:30 (every 20 minutes in the 14:00 and 15:00 hours, otherwise 1–2 an hour) and the hotel 8:30–20:15. At the hotel the stops are at the entrances of both buildings, and the Ocean Wing bus leaves 2 minutes after the Horizon Wing one. By taxi, give the name of the building you are staying in (the hotel's official access page).
- On plans with dinner, the hotel asks you to arrive by 18:00, and the Rakuten listing says dinner cannot be served after 20:00. By shuttle, take the 17:40 bus from the station at the latest.
- Child rates in the FAQ on the hotel's official site: elementary-school children 70% of the adult rate, preschool children with meals and bedding 50%, children aged 0–6 sharing a bed ¥3,300. In July 2026 a play area for children of elementary-school age and younger (Kids Park; paid, free on some plans) opened in the Ocean Wing.
- There are 2 private baths (floors 11 and 12 of the Horizon Wing, ¥6,000 for 60 minutes, booked by phone). For the large baths, the hotel's official day-visit onsen page says "children of elementary-school age and up bathe with a parent of the same gender; mixed bathing is not allowed" (it does not say whether the same applies to overnight guests). The rule on tattoos is written differently in different places on the official site. The onsen page says tattooed guests are refused entry; the FAQ says that if a cover sticker hides the tattoo from other guests, both the onsen and the pool can be used. If anyone in your family has a tattoo, ask the hotel before you book.
A children's room or a large tatami suite for 6: Hotel New Akao
Hotel New Akao came to about ¥240,000–300,000 a night for 6 in the Kids Room Premier (up to 7) or the 2-room tatami suite of 12.5 + 10 tatami (up to 11) (with dinner and breakfast; the cheapest on Rakuten Travel for 6 adults, 1 room, on a Saturday in February and in April). Plans marked "×2 rooms" on Rakuten are split over 2 rooms, so if you want everyone in one room, check the room name. Prices are shown per person, so check the total on the booking screen too.
Prices change by date and plan, so check the latest on the booking page. Always declare everyone's age when you book.
At Atami Pearl Star Hotel (Higashi-kaigan-cho), the only room where 6 can share one room is the Premier Suite Ocean View "ROTEN". Its 107 m² hold 2 twin bedrooms, a living room, a tatami room, a terrace with an open-air bath, 2 shower rooms and a kitchen. On the top floor is a 12 m infinity bath (from the hotel's own hot spring), and the large baths are split by gender. Check-out is late, at 12:00. Children of elementary-school age and up pay the adult rate, and children under 6 sharing a bed pay a facility fee of ¥3,000 each (plus tax and service), according to the hotel's official site. The hotel asks that tattoos (including small ones) are not shown anywhere in the building, including the large baths. A taxi between the station and the hotel is free once at check-in and once at check-out, but on holiday weekends and fireworks days a taxi can take 30 minutes to an hour to arrive.
- You can use a taxi between Atami Station and the hotel free of charge once at check-in and once at check-out. Check when you book how many taxis are covered for 6.
- There are 4 beds. The Rakuten listing does not say how many futons the tatami room has for the other 2 people, so ask the hotel before you book.
- For 5, a triple room (75 m², up to 5) costs about ¥230,000, so the price jumps with the 6th person. This is for a special trip where everyone wants a room with an open-air bath.
Roughly what a night for 6 costs in the suite at Atami Pearl Star Hotel (with breakfast; the cheapest on Rakuten Travel for 6 February and 10 April 2027).
Tatami rooms at the other onsen hotels are about ¥80,000–300,000 with dinner and breakfast.
A suite with an open-air bath for 6: Atami Pearl Star Hotel
At Atami Pearl Star Hotel, the only room where 6 can share one room is the suite at about ¥670,000 for 6 (with breakfast). Rakuten shows prices per person, so check the total on the booking screen.
Prices change by date and plan, so check the latest on the booking page. Always declare everyone's age when you book.
Whole-house rentals near Kinomiya: separate bedrooms and a fully equipped kitchen
In short: for space and spare beds, STARRY STAY VILLA NISHIATAMI; for a hot spring in the house, Atami Nigokan Diamond Yu; to keep the cost down, Momijigaoka Atami Villa or Baika no Yado Sososo. All are about 5–10 minutes on foot from Kinomiya Station.
| Property | From Kinomiya Station | Size and beds | Bath and facilities |
|---|---|---|---|
| STARRY STAY VILLA NISHIATAMI (Nishi-Atami-cho) | About 10 min on foot, on high ground | 460 m², 5 bedrooms + living, dining and kitchen. 5 king beds, 4 sofa beds | 3 bathrooms (3 bathtubs). Kitchen, cookware, tableware, microwave, terrace for barbecues, billiard table. Parking (included in the price) |
| Atami Nigokan Diamond Yu (熱海二号館 ダイヤモンド・悠, Nishi-Atami-cho) | About 5 min on foot | 145 m², 3 bedrooms. 2 single, 2 semi-single and 4 double beds | Natural hot spring, open-air bath, jacuzzi, private sauna. Kitchen, washing machine, dryer |
| Momijigaoka Atami Villa (Momijigaoka-cho) | About 9 min on foot | 65 m² on 2 floors. 3 bedrooms with 2 single beds each, 6 in all (up to 6) | 1 bathroom (the listing gives the number of bathtubs as 0). Cookware, microwave, fridge, washing machine. 1 parking space (declare when booking) |
| Baika no Yado Sososo (梅花の宿 そそそ, Baika-cho) | 10 min on foot | 56 m², old-house style. 2 bedrooms, 6 futons and 1 double bed (up to 8) | 1 bathroom (with bathtub). Kitchen, washing machine, projector. No parking |
- STARRY STAY VILLA NISHIATAMI: check-in 15:00 (last 23:00), check-out 10:00. The Rakuten listing does not mention a washing machine. If you want to do laundry on a longer stay, ask before you book. The Rakuten listing says credit cards cannot be used to pay; check the payment method on the booking screen.
- Atami Nigokan Diamond Yu: check-out 10:00. Momijigaoka Atami Villa: check-out is late, at 13:00.
- For Momijigaoka Atami Villa, the room section also says "no bath or toilet", so the listing contradicts itself on the bathroom. Ask about the bathroom before you book. Also, the entrance is down a flight of steps from the road. Keep this in mind if you have suitcases and grandparents.
- Apart from the steps at Momijigaoka Atami Villa, the listings do not say how much slope or how many steps there are between Kinomiya Station and each house. On days with a lot of luggage, plan on a taxi from Kinomiya or Atami Station (a standard taxi takes up to 4, so 6 need 2).
- All the houses here charge 50% from 28 days before and 100% from 6 days before as a cancellation fee (Atami Pearl Star Hotel charges 20% from 7 days before). Book once your dates are fixed.

A night for 6: about ¥80,000–300,000 at onsen hotels with 2 meals, about ¥90,000–230,000 at rentals with no meals

The February column is Saturday 6 February 2027 and the April column is Saturday 10 April 2027; in each column every property is priced for the same date. Child rates are not reflected. Some properties also charge a bathing tax (around ¥150 per person) or an accommodation tax.
- On Rakuten Travel's plan lists, these properties show the price for 1 person. Multiply by 6, or check the total on the booking screen.
- Child rates: elementary-school children pay 70% of the adult rate at Hotel Ohnoya, Atami Korakuen Hotel and Hotel New Akao, and the adult rate at Atami Pearl Star Hotel (Ohnoya from the Rakuten listing, the other 3 from their official sites). For the other properties, check the total after entering the number of children on the booking screen.
- The room-only prices for the houses include no food. Decide in advance whether you will eat dinner around Atami Station or buy at a supermarket and cook at the house.
| Party size | Rooms you can stay in |
|---|---|
| 5 | The rooms above work as they are. Search again for 5 to see the price. At Atami Pearl Star Hotel, 5 can take a triple room (75 m², up to 5) for about ¥230,000 for 5 adults (¥227,730 on 21 November 2026, searched on 12 October 2026) |
| 6 | As in the table above |
| 7–8 | Hotel Ohnoya's Japanese-Western room with twin beds + 12 tatami (up to 7), Atami Korakuen Hotel's Tower Wing Japanese-Western room (120 m², up to 8), Hotel New Akao's Kids Room Premier (up to 7) and 2-room tatami suite of 12 + 6 tatami (up to 8), Baika no Yado Sososo (up to 8), Atami Nigokan Diamond Yu (up to 14). STARRY STAY VILLA NISHIATAMI lists a maximum of 16, but its Rakuten plans go up to 6, so for 7 or more ask the property. The tatami rooms at Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Atami and TAOYA Atami, and Momijigaoka Atami Villa, take up to 6 |
With a different mix: if your children are preschoolers, some properties charge a bed-sharing or infant rate and the total drops. Child rates differ by property (elementary-school children pay 70% of the adult rate at Hotel Ohnoya, Atami Korakuen Hotel and Hotel New Akao, and the adult rate at Atami Pearl Star Hotel).
Before you bookWhat to check before you book
In short: for an onsen hotel, check the arrival time and whether the room has its own bath; for a house, check check-in and key collection, the walk from the station and parking, before you book.
1. Arrival time and dinner Property listings
At many onsen hotels with dinner, the last check-in is 18:00–19:00, and if you are late dinner may not be served. A day when you land at Haneda in the morning makes it easier. If your flight lands in the evening or later, stay in Tokyo the first night or pick a place with no meals.
2. Bath in the room Property listings
Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Atami's 12-tatami rooms come with and without their own bath, and TAOYA Atami's 20-tatami rooms have none. If you want to bathe small children in the room, choose a room with its own bath.
3. Children and the parent of the other gender in the large bath Property listings
Up to what age a child may go in with the parent of the other gender differs by hotel. To bathe as a family only, choose Hotel Ohnoya with its private baths, Atami Pearl Star Hotel with a room that has an open-air bath, or Atami Nigokan Diamond Yu with a hot spring in the house.
4. Check-in and keys at a house Property listings
The Rakuten pages for all 4 say "contactless or no face-to-face check-in possible" and "check-in in the room possible". None of them says how you get the key. Read the instructions the property sends after booking, and make sure you can receive email on your phone.
5. Rubbish, noise, parking and day 2 Property listings
The houses are in residential areas. How to put out rubbish, noise at night and the number of parking spaces differ by property (how to use a whole-house rental). If you take the boat to Hatsushima on day 2, a seafront place near Atami Port is handy (a day crossing from Atami to Hatsushima).
Honest notes: before you book (7)
These are things we have not been able to verify, so we do not assert them.
Prices are a record of the day we searched
The price table shows what Rakuten Travel returned on 17 October 2026 for 6 adults, 1 room, 1 night, on 2 dates: 6 February and 10 April 2027. Prices and availability change with the date and the room.
Some onsen hotels have no booking button
The onsen hotels with buttons are 4: Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Atami, Hotel Ohnoya, Hotel New Akao and Atami Pearl Star Hotel (where the only room for 6 is the suite at about ¥670,000). For Atami Korakuen Hotel and TAOYA Atami, search Rakuten Travel by the hotel name.
Hotel New Akao's official site contradicts itself on tattoos
The official onsen page says tattooed guests are refused entry, while the FAQ says the onsen and pool can be used if a cover sticker hides the tattoo. As for the age at which an overnight guest's child may go in the large bath with the parent of the other gender, the official site only has the day-visit guidance (from elementary-school age, with a parent of the same gender). Ask the hotel before you book.
We do not know the bedding for the other 2 at Pearl Star
The suite has 4 beds, and the Rakuten listing does not say how many futons the tatami room has. Ask the hotel before you book.
Check child rates on the booking screen
All prices are searched for 6 adults. The properties whose child rates we found in the listing or on the official site are 4: Hotel Ohnoya, Atami Korakuen Hotel and Hotel New Akao (elementary-school children 70% of the adult rate), and Atami Pearl Star Hotel (elementary-school age and up pay the adult rate).
We do not know the slopes and steps from Kinomiya Station
Apart from the steps at Momijigaoka Atami Villa, the listings do not describe the ups and downs between the station and each house. We did not walk the routes ourselves.
Momijigaoka Atami Villa's listing contradicts itself on the bathroom
It gives the number of bathtubs as 0, while the room section also says "no bath or toilet". Ask the property before you book.
Atami stays for big families: FAQ
Are there onsen hotels in Atami where 6 can share one room?
Yes. The 12-tatami room at Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Atami, the ocean-view 18-tatami room at Atami Korakuen Hotel, the 20-tatami room at TAOYA Atami and the Japanese-Western room with twin beds + 8 tatami at Hotel Ohnoya all take up to 6. Hotel New Akao has the Kids Room Premier (up to 7) and 2-room tatami suites (up to 8) (Rakuten Travel listings, as of October 2026). In a tatami room, everyone sleeps on futons laid side by side.
Which is cheaper, an onsen hotel or a house?
Searching Rakuten for 6 adults, 1 room, on Saturdays in February and April 2027, the rentals came to about ¥90,000–230,000 room only, and the onsen hotels to about ¥80,000–300,000 with 2 meals. Food costs extra at a house, so compare prices that include meals.
How do we get to a house near Kinomiya Station?
Get off at Kinomiya Station, 1 stop (2–3 minutes) from Atami Station on the JR Ito Line, then walk about 5–10 minutes. For most properties, the listings do not describe the slopes or steps from the station, so on days with a lot of luggage consider a taxi (2 for 6 people).
What do children do in a tatami room with no bath of its own?
They use the large baths split by gender. The age up to which a child may go in with the parent of the other gender differs by hotel, so if this matters to you, choose a place with private baths (Hotel Ohnoya has 6, free, 24 hours) or a room with its own bath.
Check availability at 2 places where 6 can share one room
Atami Pearl Star Hotel for a suite with an open-air bath (about ¥670,000 for 6, with breakfast); STARRY STAY VILLA NISHIATAMI for separate bedrooms (no meals).
Prices change by date and plan, so check the latest on the booking page. Always declare everyone's age when you book.
