At Uminonakamichi, start with who does not need a ticket.
Admission for 6 is about ¥13,000. Then JR or the boat.
Close to Hakata, Uminonakamichi has an aquarium themed on the seas around Kyushu, Marine World Uminonakamichi, right next to a large national seaside park that even has an animal forest. From Hakata Station it is about 30–45 minutes by train including the wait to change, or 20 minutes by boat from Hakata Port. For 6 people, admission plus JR there and back already comes to ¥18,720. This article is about deciding first who in your 6 does not need a ticket, to keep the day's total down.
This article contains promotional content (PR). We include Klook affiliate links for booking airport transfers, transport tickets, experiences, and luggage delivery. If you book through these links, we may earn a commission to help run the site (at no extra cost to you). Options not covered by our partners, such as JR and other public transport, are compared neutrally.
Who goes freeDecide first: who in your 6 does not need a ticket
Amounts in this article are calculated for a family of 6 — two parents, two elementary-school children and two grandparents (65 or over).
The answer: in this family of 6, the only ones who need no ticket are the 2 children at the seaside park. JR and the boat are free only for preschoolers, so the 2 elementary-school children pay fares. The aquarium charges both elementary-school children and preschoolers aged 3 and over.
| Place | Adult | 65 and over | Child | Preschooler |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Marine World Uminonakamichi (aquarium) | ¥2,500 (high-school age and over) | ¥2,200 (senior) | ¥1,200 (elementary and junior-high school) | ¥700 (preschoolers aged 3+). No category for under-3s on the price list |
| Uminonakamichi Seaside Park | ¥450 (15 and over) | ¥210 (silver) | Free (junior-high age and under) | Free |
| JR (Hakata → Uminonakamichi, one way) | ¥560 | ¥560 | ¥280 (child) | Free (preschoolers aged 1+; up to 2 per paying adult or child) |
| Boat: Uminaka Line (Hakata Port → Uminonakamichi, one way) | ¥1,300 | ¥1,300 | ¥650 (child) | 1 free per adult; from the second, the child fare |
Seaside park entry for junior-high age and under.
Two of your 6 do not need a park ticket.
- Under-3s at the aquarium: the price list has no category for them, which reads as free, but we could not confirm the word "free" in the official text. Check at the counter.
- Grandparents aged 65 or over get a discount at both the aquarium (senior ¥2,200) and the park (silver ¥210). Bring proof of age, such as a passport.
- Categories set by school year: "elementary school" and "preschool" follow Japan's school years. For children whose school year or birthday cut-off does not match, it is up to the counter.
- Holders of a disability certificate pay half the individual aquarium price, for themselves and one carer (official). However, only certificates issued in Japan count; disability cards from other countries are not covered (the same applies to the park's exemption).
How much for 6: about ¥13,000 to get in, ¥520 less with set tickets for the adults
The answer: entry to both the aquarium and the seaside park comes to ¥13,120 for 6. If only the 2 adults buy the "Seaside Park Set", it is ¥12,600. For the grandparents, buying the two separately is cheaper than the set.
- Aquarium for 6: ¥2,500×2 + ¥2,200×2 + ¥1,200×2 = ¥11,800
- Seaside park for 6: ¥450×2 + ¥210×2 = ¥1,320 (the 2 children are free — no ticket to buy)
- Seaside Park Set (aquarium + park entry, adults ¥2,690): bought separately it is ¥2,950 per adult, so the set saves ¥260 per adult. It is sold only through Asoview, and only as an adult (high-school age and over) ticket (official guidance).
- For the grandparents, buying separately is ¥2,200 + ¥210 = ¥2,410, cheaper than the adult set (¥2,690).
| What you pay for | 5 (parents + 1 child + grandparents) | 6 (parents + 2 children + grandparents) | 7 (the 6 + one child aged 3–5) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aquarium | ¥10,600 | ¥11,800 | ¥12,500 |
| Seaside park | ¥1,320 | ¥1,320 | ¥1,320 (preschooler free) |
| JR there and back | ¥5,040 | ¥5,600 | ¥5,600 (preschooler free) |
| Total | ¥16,960 | ¥18,720 | ¥19,420 |
- At any party size, set tickets for the 2 adults save ¥520.
- If your mix is different: if one of the elementary-school children is instead aged 3–5, the aquarium for 6 is ¥11,300 and JR there and back ¥5,040 (preschoolers free). If that child is 2 or under, the aquarium is expected to be ¥10,600 (check how under-3s are treated at the counter).
What moves the total most is how you get there and back. JR and the boat differ by ¥7,400 for 6, there and back.
Buy aquarium tickets ahead
For days you skip the seaside park, or for the grandparents' and children's aquarium tickets. The set ticket only comes as an adult ticket, so the rest of the family can buy here.
For seaside park entry, check prices and closed days on the Uminonakamichi Seaside Park official site (not an affiliate). Payment at the gate is cash only.
Klook's displayed price changes, so it is separate from the totals in this article (calculated from official counter prices). Check ticket types and age categories on the booking page.
Getting there and back: JR is ¥5,600 for 6 there and back, the boat ¥13,000
The answer: JR if you want it cheap, the boat if you want to arrive without changing. Return tickets are not sold at the pier, so you can mix one way each: boat there, JR back.
| Way | Time | Changes | After you arrive | Return for 6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| JR (Hakata → change at Kashii → Uminonakamichi) | Hakata → Kashii 11–12 min + Kashii Line 16 min. 30–44 min including the wait at Kashii (JR Kyushu timetable and fare search; 3 trains on a Sunday afternoon in October 2026) | 1 (Kashii Station) | About 5 min on foot from the station to the aquarium | ¥5,600 |
| Boat: Uminaka Line (Hakata Port → Uminonakamichi) | 20 min | None | 1 min on foot from the pier to the aquarium | ¥13,000 |
| Boat there, JR back | ― | ― | ― | ¥9,300 (¥6,500 one way + ¥2,800 one way) |
- The number of sailings varies by day. On the operating calendar for October–November 2026, there are 4 sailings a day on weekdays and 7 a day on weekends and holidays. On 4-sailing days, the last boat back from Uminonakamichi to Hakata Port leaves at 16:35, which is early, so check the timetable for your day on the operator's (Yasuda Sangyo Kisen) calendar first.
- If you take the boat both ways, the operator sells a set of "return boat ticket + Marine World admission" (adults ¥4,600, junior-high ¥3,350, elementary ¥2,250; the operator gives the usual prices as ¥5,100, ¥3,800 and ¥2,500). It is not sold at the pier: buy it in advance, in cash, at counters such as the highway bus ticket office on 3F of Hakata Bus Terminal (valid for 2 months including the day of purchase).
- You cannot board the boat while seated in a wheelchair (operator's guidance). How strollers are handled is not stated officially, so ask at the pier.
- For the boat pier at Hakata Port (Bayside Place Hakata), take a bus bound for "Hakata Futo" (Hakata Port) from in front of Hakata Station or from Tenjin, and get off at the last stop (operator's guidance). Check the stop nearest your hotel and the times on a route planner.
- If you stay in Tenjin, getting from Tenjin to Uminonakamichi Station means the subway, Nishitetsu and JR with 2 changes (Kaizuka and Wajiro), 42 minutes on board in total (the aquarium's official access page). Families who want fewer changes can take JR from Hakata Station, or the boat.
- Where to stay in Hakata or Tenjin is in Hakata stays where 6 share one room, and getting in from the airport is in Fukuoka Airport to Hakata and Tenjin with a family of 6.
Planning the day: check opening hours and closed days first
The answer: last entry to both the aquarium and the park is around 16:30 (March–October). The park closes on Tuesdays in some periods, so pick your day first.
Official opening hours of Marine World Uminonakamichi and Uminonakamichi Seaside Park (as of September 2026). The aquarium stays open until 21:00 during Golden Week and on some summer days.
- Aquarium: 9:30–17:30; 10:00–17:00 from December to February. Last entry 1 hour before closing (official opening hours). Open until 21:00 during Golden Week and on some summer days. Closed for 4 days from the third Monday of January (18–21 January in 2027). Check the hours for your day on the official calendar.
- Seaside park: 9:30–17:30 from 1 March to 31 October, 9:30–17:00 from 1 November to the end of February. Last entry 1 hour before closing. The animal forest takes visitors until 30 minutes before closing.
- Seaside park closures: besides 31 December, 1 January and a few days in mid-January, the park closes every Tuesday during parts of June–July, September, November–December and January–March (the next weekday if Tuesday is a public holiday). Check your day on the official closure calendar.
- Show times change with the season, so check the official information on the day. From 12 January to 9 April 2027, the dolphin and sea-lion shows are suspended for pool repair work (official notice; they may restart earlier). You can still see the dolphins in the outdoor pool during that time.
What helps on a day with children and grandparents
The answer: the seaside park is very large, and its park bus runs only on certain days. Decide on strollers, and when the grandparents can rest, before you go.
- In 2026 the park bus ran only on certain days in spring and October (¥500 for a 1-day pass, ages 3 and over). On ordinary days, you walk around the park.
- The seaside park lends strollers and wheelchairs free at the gates (no advance booking).
- Seaside park entry is cash only (rental bicycles and the like take cashless payment).
- The aquarium lends strollers free (leave a ¥500 deposit, returned when you bring it back; limited numbers). There is one nursing room (with hot water for formula) and coin lockers (medium ¥300, large ¥400, extra large ¥500). We could not confirm on the official pages whether you can re-enter, so ask at the counter before you go out.
- You can bring your own food into the aquarium, and there are 2 places to eat it (the show seating when no show is on, and the lawn on fine days). The seaside park has coin lockers at each entrance (put in ¥100; you get it back when you open the locker).
- If you go on the day you land, most hotels will not let you in before 15:00 and cannot hold your bags either. Decide where your luggage goes first (Hakata stays where 6 share one room).
- For families heading back to Hakata for the yatai food stalls in the evening, Fukuoka's yatai stalls with a family of 6 covers what to do when you cannot all sit and where the etiquette lines are.
Honest notes (5 things we could not confirm or have left out)
These are things we have not been able to verify, so we do not assert them.
Under-3s at the aquarium
The price list simply has no category for them; we could not confirm the word "free" in the official text. Please check at the counter.
Re-entry to the aquarium
The conditions for re-entry were not written anywhere on the official pages. Please ask at the counter before you go out.
Strollers on the boat
The operator's pages do not say how strollers are handled. Please check at the pier.
Show times and boat operating days
Show times change with the season and the day, so we have not given them. For the boat we have only given the number of sailings for October–November 2026. For December onwards and the timetable on your day, see the official information and calendar.
Klook's selling price
It changes, so we have not used it in the totals. The totals are calculated from the official counter prices.
Uminonakamichi for a big family: FAQ
Do children pay to enter Uminonakamichi Seaside Park?
Junior-high age and under go free. Adults (15 and over) pay ¥450, and those 65 and over ¥210 (as of September 2026). Entry is paid in cash only.
From what age do you pay at Marine World Uminonakamichi?
On the price list, preschoolers aged 3 and over pay ¥700 and elementary and junior-high students ¥1,200. There is no under-3 category on the list, which reads as free, but we could not confirm this in the official text, so check at the counter.
From Hakata to Uminonakamichi, is JR or the boat better?
For 6, JR there and back is ¥5,600 and the boat there and back ¥13,000 (calculated for 4 adults + 2 elementary-school children). The boat takes 20 minutes with no changes, and the aquarium is 1 minute on foot from the pier. You can buy one way at a time, so boat there and JR back also works.
Should all 6 of us buy the aquarium + park set ticket?
Adults (under 65) only is enough. The park is free for children, and grandparents aged 65 and over pay less buying separately (¥2,410, against ¥2,690 for the set). The set ticket is only sold as an adult (high-school age and over) ticket.
