Haneda to Shinjuku for 6: about ¥2,800 by train.
By taxi you need two cars: ¥18,000 plus tolls.
Going from Haneda to Shinjuku as 6, a regular taxi takes up to 4 passengers, so you split into two cars, and even at the fixed fare that is ¥18,000 plus expressway tolls for both cars. By train it is about ¥2,800; by limousine bus, ¥7,000 (calculated from official fares as of September 2026). Price is one factor; the other is what time you get to the airport.

Cost for 6From Haneda the train is cheapest, and two taxis cost about 2.6 times the bus
The answer: from Haneda the train is cheapest, and two taxis cost about 2.6 times the bus even before tolls. From Narita, Keisei + Toei is cheapest, and the Narita Express and the limousine bus cost about the same.
Amounts in this article are calculated for 6 people: two parents, two elementary-school children and two grandparents.
What the chart does not show is changes and luggage. The train means one change at Shinagawa or Hamamatsucho; the bus and taxi have none.
| Option | 5 (4 adults + 1 child) | 6 (4 adults + 2 children) | 7 (4 adults + 3 children) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train (Keikyu + JR, IC) | ¥2,546 | ¥2,772 | ¥2,998 |
| Limousine bus | ¥6,300 | ¥7,000 | ¥7,700 |
| Option | Cost for 6 | Changes and time |
|---|---|---|
| Keisei Access Express + Toei Shinjuku Line (IC card) | ¥7,330 | 1 change, about 1 h 30–40 min |
| Skyliner + JR (paper tickets) | ¥14,200 | 1 change at Nippori, from about 1 h 10 min (depends on the train) |
| Narita Express (paper tickets, regular season) | ¥16,640 | No change, about 1 h 25–35 min |
| Limousine bus | ¥18,000 (adults ¥3,600, elementary-school children ¥1,800) | No change |
| Taxi (airport fixed fare, 2 cars) | ¥63,000 + tolls × 2 cars | No change |
| For reference: "N'EX Tokyo Round Trip Ticket" for overseas visitors | ¥26,000 return (¥13,000 per one way) | No change. For holders of a foreign passport returning from Narita within 14 days |
- With a different mix, each extra adult adds ¥580 by train and ¥1,400 by bus from Haneda to Shinjuku. Taxis are priced per car, so above 4 people you need two.
- Grandparents pay adult fares. Limousine bus and rail fares have only adult and child categories.
- Children under 6 can ride rail and the limousine bus free under certain conditions if they do not use a seat (if they take a seat on the bus, the child fare applies).
From Haneda: the limousine bus or a private transfer (a taxi means two cars)
The answer: if you can leave Haneda before midnight, take the limousine bus; if you have a lot of luggage and want to go to your door in one vehicle, book a private transfer.
1. No standing on the bus Airport Transport Service
Adults ¥1,400, elementary-school children ¥700. If the bus is full, you cannot board. Online booking opens one month before the travel date.
2. Up to 2 bags per person Airport Transport Service
Each up to 50 × 60 × 120 cm and 30 kg. That is up to 12 bags for 6. Depending on the amount and size, they may be refused.
3. Fixed taxi fare ¥9,000 Tokyo Hire-Taxi Association
Haneda Airport ⇔ Shinjuku Ward fixed fare (¥10,700 from 22:00 to 5:00), plus Shuto Expressway tolls. A regular car takes up to 4, so 6 need two.
- The limousine bus costs the same to Shinjuku Station West Exit, Busta Shinjuku and the main Shinjuku hotels. From Haneda you buy your ticket before boarding (online booking, or the ticket machines at the airport on the day; the official site does not describe paying on board).
- The fixed taxi fare applies from the airport taxi stand, with no booking needed.
- A wagon taxi takes up to 6, and as a rule must be booked at least 48 hours ahead. But with 6 on board, the suitcases may not all fit. Nihon Kotsu lists the capacity of its wagons (Alphard, Esquire) as "6 (4–5 recommended)" and the boot as holding "2–4 suitcases" (as of October 2026). Depending on the size and number of suitcases they may not fit in one car, so tell them the number and size of your bags when you book and check that they will fit. Haneda's taxi stand also has a dedicated lane where wagons and minivans wait.
- To carry 6 people and their luggage in one vehicle, you can also book a 10-seat private transfer in advance. Klook lists it at up to 9 passengers, with up to 9 suitcases at 24 inches or 5 at 28 inches. The 7-seat vehicle takes up to 6 passengers, but only 4 suitcases even at 24 inches (2 at 28 inches), so luggage for 6 will not fit. A stroller counts as one oversized item, and if your luggage exceeds the allowance you may be refused, with no refund (as of October 2026).
6 people and big luggage in one vehicle, to your door
A 10-seat vehicle carries all 6 and the luggage in one (up to 9 passengers; up to 9 suitcases at 24 inches, 5 at 28 inches).
Prices vary by number of passengers and vehicle. On the booking page, enter 6 passengers and your number of bags to see which vehicles fit.
From Narita: the Narita Express and the bus cost about the same
The answer: from Narita, the Narita Express with no change (¥16,640) and the limousine bus (¥18,000) cost about the same. If you fly home from Narita within 14 days, the return ticket for overseas visitors (¥13,000 per one way) is cheaper; for the lowest price, Keisei + the Toei Shinjuku Line (¥7,330).
- Narita Express: adults ¥3,330, children ¥1,660 (fare + reserved limited express charge, regular season; varies a little by season). All seats are reserved, and it runs direct to Shinjuku. If you also reserve a seat for a preschool child, the child fare applies.
- "N'EX Tokyo Round Trip Ticket" for overseas visitors (holders of a foreign passport, valid 14 days): adults ¥5,200, children ¥2,600 (return). For 6 that is ¥26,000 return = ¥13,000 per one way, so if you fly home from Narita within 14 days, it is cheaper than the bus.
- Limousine bus: adults ¥3,600, elementary-school children ¥1,800. Until early evening it stops at the main Shinjuku hotels.
- Keisei Access Express + Toei Shinjuku Line: one change, about 1 h 30–40 min. The Toei Shinjuku Line's Shinjuku Station is some way from JR Shinjuku Station, so whether it suits you depends on where you are staying.
- Taxi: the fixed fare from the Narita Airport taxi stand to Shinjuku Ward is ¥31,500 per car (via the Keiyo Road). Tolls and the late-night surcharge are extra, so 6 in two cars is ¥63,000 or more.
Evening arrivals: Haneda has options until after 2:00; Narita runs out after 23:00
The answer: Haneda keeps a public option until after 2:00, but Narita runs out in the 23:00 hour. If you can choose an evening flight, landing at Haneda leaves you more options.
The last time a public option (the late-night bus) leaves Haneda for Shinjuku.
From 0:05 to 2:20, it is only the late-night bus (¥14,000 for 6) or a taxi.
| Leaving Haneda | What you can use |
|---|---|
| Until 22:50 (from Terminal 3) | The last limousine bus to the door of Shinjuku hotels (arrives Shinjuku Washington Hotel 23:43, Hilton Tokyo 23:48). The last bus differs by hotel (for Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku and Odakyu Hotel Century Southern Tower it leaves at 22:40, for Keio Plaza Hotel at 22:20) |
| Until 23:40 (Terminal 3) / 23:55 (Terminal 1) | Buses at the regular fare terminate at Shinjuku Station West Exit or Busta Shinjuku (arriving 0:23–0:28) |
| Until about 23:50 | The last train (arrives Shinjuku 0:44; varies by day of the week). With immigration and baggage claim, you may not make it after an international flight landing in the 23:00 hour |
| 0:05–2:20 | Late-night bus (double fare: adults ¥2,800, elementary-school children ¥1,400 = ¥14,000 for 6) or taxi. The bus terminates at Shinjuku Station West Exit or Busta Shinjuku |
| After 2:20 | Taxi only |
- After midnight, the gap between the late-night bus (¥14,000) and two taxis (late-night ¥21,400 plus Shuto Expressway tolls × 2) narrows to about 1.5 times.
- The first late-night bus calls at Terminal 2 → Terminal 1 → Terminal 3, the reverse of the regular buses.
- If you will reach Shinjuku after 23:00, check your stay's last check-in time first (many are 23:00–24:00 → places in Shinjuku where 6 can share one room).
| Leaving Narita | What you can use |
|---|---|
| Until 20:30 (from Terminal 3) | The last limousine bus that stops at Shinjuku hotels |
| Until 21:44 | The last direct Narita Express to Shinjuku (arrives 23:12). On the timetable through December 2026 it runs every day except 6 and 7 November. The spring 2027 timetable has not been announced yet, so check the timetable for your day |
| 23:00–23:08 | The last Skyliner and Keisei trains (arrive Shinjuku 0:20–0:41, two changes) |
| Until 23:05 (from Terminal 1) | The last limousine bus (arrives Shinjuku Station West Exit 0:25) |
| Later than that | Taxi only (¥63,000 or more for two cars) |
For child fares on an IC card, get one at the station with the child's passport
The answer: an IC card that charges child fares is made at the station with the child's passport. From Haneda to Shinjuku, the difference is ¥74 per child per trip.
- "Welcome Suica" for overseas visitors comes in a child version. You can buy it at dedicated ticket machines and counters (JR EAST Travel Service Center) at Narita Airport Station, Airport Terminal 2 Station and Haneda Airport Terminal 3 Station. The child's passport is required, and it is valid for 28 days.
- Haneda → Shinjuku (Keikyu + JR): ¥226 for a child with an IC card, ¥300 with a paper ticket.
- On Keikyu, the child IC fare is a flat ¥75 (¥100 from the Haneda Airport stations toward Shinagawa). The more you ride Keikyu, the bigger the difference.
- Child fares are paid with a child card. Suica on a smartphone (Mobile Suica on Android, Suica in Apple Pay on iPhone) cannot be used by elementary-school children and does not charge child fares (JR East FAQ, as of October 2026).
Late-evening buses terminate at Shinjuku Station West Exit or Busta Shinjuku
The answer: late-evening limousine buses terminate at Shinjuku Station West Exit or Busta Shinjuku. To a stay in Shinjuku-sanchome, you walk or take a taxi from there (Busta Shinjuku is above Shinjuku Station South Exit; the Shinjuku-sanchome minpaku Everynet Shinjuku II says it is 10 minutes on foot from Shinjuku Station South Exit).
- How to choose a place in Shinjuku where 6 can share one room is in Shinjuku stays for 6 in one room.
- For a day at Shinjuku Gyoen in the cherry-blossom season, see choosing your day for the Shinjuku Gyoen cherry blossoms; for the picnic rules, cherry-blossom picnic rules differ from park to park.
- If you are staying in Asakusa or Ueno, the answer flips depending on the airport → Haneda or Narita to Asakusa and Ueno.
Honest caveats
These are things we have not been able to verify, so we do not assert them.
We do not give the amount of the Shuto Expressway tolls
Fixed taxi fares do not include Shuto Expressway tolls. They change with the route and time of day, so we have not given an amount.
Whether luggage for 6 fits in a wagon taxi: check when you book
Nihon Kotsu lists the capacity of its wagons as 6 (4–5 recommended) and the boot as holding 2–4 suitcases. It depends on size and number, so when you book, tell the operator the number and size of your bags and check whether luggage for 6 fits in one car.
We do not give how long immigration takes
Whether you make the last train after an evening international flight depends on how busy it is that day.
The Narita Express running days for spring 2027 have not been announced yet
The 21:44 to Shinjuku (Narita Express 54) runs every day except 6 and 7 November on the timetable through December 2026 published as of October 2026 (JR East running days by train). The spring 2027 timetable, which covers the cherry-blossom season, has not been announced yet, so check the timetable for your day.
Child-fare categories
Child-fare categories are defined differently by each operator, and the official sites do not always state them. In this article we write only what we could confirm, and leave out anything we could not confirm. Always check how ages and headcounts are counted when you book.
Haneda and Narita to Shinjuku FAQ
What is a normal taxi fare at night from Haneda to a stay in Shinjuku?
Haneda Airport ⇔ Shinjuku Ward is a fixed fare of ¥9,000 per car, ¥10,700 from 22:00 to 5:00 (plus Shuto Expressway tolls). It applies from the airport taxi stand with no booking needed. With 5 or more people you need two cars, so at night it is ¥21,400 plus tolls × 2 cars. If you are quoted much more than this, check whether the trip falls outside the fixed fare, for example outside Shinjuku Ward, on ordinary roads or as a pre-booked private hire.
For 5 people (2 adults + 3 children), is the train or a taxi cheaper?
From Haneda to Shinjuku, the train (Keikyu + JR, IC card) is ¥1,838 for 5. A taxi takes up to 4, so two cars at ¥18,000 plus Shuto Expressway tolls.
Should we book the limousine bus?
There is no standing, and if it is full you wait for the next bus. To be sure all 6 ride together, reserve seats online; booking opens one month before the travel date.
Can we get into our stay if we reach Shinjuku after midnight?
It depends on the last check-in time. Places in Shinjuku where 6 can share one room are often 23:00–24:00, and with the late-night bus (arriving Shinjuku Station West Exit from 0:48) you will miss it at some. Before booking, check the last check-in time and how to let them know if you are late.
To ride all 6 together, secure limousine bus seats first
Online booking opens one month before the travel date. From Haneda it runs to Shinjuku Station West Exit and Busta Shinjuku with no change.
