A big family in one room in Niseko & Rusutsu.
The bigger the name on the hotel, the sooner it stops at four.
You search the resort you had your heart set on, and no room for five adults comes up. That is not a flaw in how you are searching — it is how the rooms themselves are built. There are two answers: the Westin, where every room is a maisonette, and a whole house three minutes away by car.

The heart of itWhy searching "Rusutsu Resort" stops at four people
Search "Rusutsu Resort" on a booking site and what comes up is Rusutsu Resort Hotel & Convention. We went through the room types one by one on the official site, and every single one caps at four guests.
There is no "room for five" in the standard rooms Official
Twin sleeps 3 (33 m²) / Triple sleeps 4 (33 m²) / Japanese-style bedroom sleeps 4 (33 m²) / Junior Suite sleeps 4 (66 m²) / South Suite sleeps 4 (78 m²). Even the larger rooms stop at four. When we actually searched a one-night stay on 16 January 2027, four adults could book — but not a single result came back for five adults in one room.
The big hotels in Niseko were the same
This is not something peculiar to Rusutsu. Searching the same dates, Hilton Niseko Village and Shin Furano Prince Hotel both returned zero for five adults in one room. The bigger and better known the hotel, the more its capacity is set by the number of beds — so a family of five hits the same wall everywhere.
It is not that they are holding rooms back - the room does not exist
You would think it might simply be too early to book. But two and four adults booked perfectly normally on those same dates. Nothing is being held back; there is no room that five people fit into.

Every family of five trips over this once.
The two that do take you - not rivals in the same league
Both are within reach of Rusutsu Resort, and both take five or more people in one room (or one house). But they sit almost three times apart on price, so this is less a comparison than a choice.

Check what is still open for five or more in one room
The Westin has 210 rooms, but only some of them hold six. Centro has seven villas in total. With either one, you cannot tell whether there is space until you put the number of people in.

Change the area, and the number of places goes up eightfold
If you are searching in Niseko and finding nothing, it is not that you are searching badly. There simply are not many to begin with. Here is how many properties could be booked for six adults in one room, all on the same night.
The number of properties that came up in a Rakuten Travel availability search for one night, one room, checking in on 16 January 2027 (measured as of Aug 2026). Two other dates (27 December and 13 February) gave the same ranking. For a big family, the Niseko-Rusutsu area is a place with few options to start with.
If world-class snow is what you came for, that is Niseko and Rusutsu; if what you want is a choice of places to sleep, that is Sapporo. A free shuttle bus runs from Sapporo to Rusutsu every day, so "stay in Sapporo and commute" is a real option. We put the actual cost of getting around in the guide to travelling from New Chitose Airport.

If you would rather look beyond these two before deciding, this map lets you compare places around Rusutsu Resort side by side.
Honest drawbacks: what to know before you book
These two suit big families, but there are things worth knowing first.
Choose the Niseko side and the price jumps
Trying to get six in one room in Niseko Town or Kutchan means mostly whole-house rentals and private lettings, at ¥98,000 to ¥447,000 a night. That is a different bracket from Centro on the Rusutsu side (from ¥8,100 per person with six sharing). Unless you are set on Niseko's snow, the Rusutsu side is easier on the budget.
There are "log houses" that never appear on booking sites
Rusutsu's official site lists log houses sleeping 6, 18 and 24 people per building, stating clearly that they are "available for parties of four or more". They do not show up in a Rakuten Travel search. Which means a family reading only the booking sites, in a language other than Japanese, will never reach this option. Check rates, how to book, and the winter operating period on the official site (we are not asserting them here).
The counts in this article are what could be booked on particular days
They are not total room counts. Change the dates and the numbers move, and they move upward as more inventory goes on sale. Nineteen does not mean there is definitely not enough. Use it as a sense of how wide the gap between areas is.
Over New Year, the options drop by about a third
Of the 12 searches, only 29 December fell away, to 14. The rest were 18 to 23. If you are going over New Year, moving at the same pace as any other date will not get you there in time.
Frequently asked questions
When should I book?
Across 12 searches made once a fortnight, New Year (29 December) was the thinnest, at 14 properties. Other dates ran from 18 to 23. If you are going over New Year, move earlier than you would for any other date.
Niseko or Rusutsu - which suits a big family better?
On the single question of whether five or more can sleep in one room, it is Rusutsu. Two answers sit in the same area: the Westin's 5- and 7-person rooms, and a whole house three minutes away by car. On the Niseko side, six-in-one-room means mostly whole-house rentals, and the price bracket rises.
Some of the family do not ski. Is there anything for them at the hotel?
Rusutsu has a hot spring, Kotobuki-no-Yu, and guests use it free (there is a charge before check-in and after check-out). We set out how to build a day for the people who do not ski in a day in the snow at Rusutsu without skiing.
How do we get there from New Chitose Airport?
There are three ways: the direct shuttle from the airport (120 minutes), a free bus via Sapporo, and a large rental car. Compared on the real cost for six people the gap is wide, so read the guide to getting from New Chitose Airport to Niseko and Rusutsu first.
If the questions are answered, all that is left is to enter the number of people
Across 12 searches, both the Westin and Centro had space for six in one room 10 times. Only over New Year does the whole area drop to 14 properties (measured as of Aug 2026). Put your party size in and see what is left.
